DAT - Dental Admission Test Preparation
DAT Consists of four parts, the 4.5 hour non-adaptive computerize DAT is a formidable challenge to any pre-dental student. Everyone must take this exam prior to matriculation into dental school. Examiners must fluently transition through 4 parts in 12 subjects: algebra, geometry, statistics, trigonometry, animal physiology, plant morphology, evolution, genetics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, in addition to a perceptual ability test, and a reading comprehension to become successful. Basic analytical skills, a strong foundation in the sciences, mathematics, and perceptual abilities are essentials. The exam grades individuals based on a curve with a 16-17 out of 30 as the average score. Most dental schools however, considers 18 or above to be competitive.
Unlike most other health related graduate examination, the DAT looks for both dept and width of knowledge. A command in each of the sciences is critical as a large portion of the DAT focuses on detail questions. The test scores here reflect an individual’s ability to grasp basic concepts and key details. The reading comprehension largely tests for an examiner’s analytical skills and appetite for scientific literatures. All the while, the quantitative reasoning (math section) checks one’s ability to manipulate equations and approximate answers given a time constraint. The last portion of the DAT is the PAT (perceptual ability test) which evaluates test-takers ability to construct three-dimensional images based on two-dimensional drawings.
